History of Carsharing
The idea of carsharing originated in Switzerland during the 1980s and has since spread to many countries in Europe and the rest of the world. Carsharing simply put, is when a group shares a number of cars. A car pool reduces the number of cars needed by 3-6 cars, depending on whether they are personal cars or service cars. A group sharing cars also means that the group must share car costs such as purchase, taxes, insurance, and service. As a member in carsharing or a car club, one pays only a subscription fee and a fee when one uses the car.
About Sunfleet Carsharing
The program began in 1998 as a development project under the name mobility.nu, and has since become established as the only car club in the world with only green cars. Sunfleet’s car fleet contains only cars that fulfill the Swedish Road Administration’s (Vägverkets) requirements for eco cars. Some examples are the Volvo C30, Volvo V50, and Volvo V70 Flexifuel.
At the core of the project is an advanced internet based booking system that developed and managed by Sunfleet. A unique telematic solution which is installed in every Sunfleet car allows for wireless communication between car, mobile phone and Sunfleet’s dataserver.
Today Sunfleet has more than 9,000 car club members and over 3,500 trips per month.
Sunfleet is growing continuously, and we are available in Malmö, Lund, Växjö, Mölndal, Gothenburg (Göteborg), Jönköping, Linköping, Stockholm,Umeå and Västerås with over 95 pools in operation.
Sunfleet Carsharing is a part of Hertz Sweden and Volvo Personbilar Sweden.
